Field Operations Rigger

Position Summary

The Field Operations Rigger is responsible for the installation, maintenance, upgrade, and repair of telecommunications infrastructure and site support systems. The role involves working at heights, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, supporting network optimization activities, and ensuring telecommunications sites remain operational, safe, and compliant with company and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Telecommunications Infrastructure

• Perform rigging, installation, maintenance, and upgrade works on telecommunications sites, including fixed and mobile network infrastructure.
• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair antennas, feeders, cabling systems, grounding systems, and associated equipment.
• Support network optimization projects and site upgrade activities.
• Assist Field Operations and Planning Engineers with site implementation and maintenance activities.

Site Maintenance & Operations

• Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on:
  • Telecommunications sites and towers
  • Antennas and feeder systems
  • Earthing and grounding systems
  • Rectifiers and power systems
  • Battery banks
  • Emergency generators
  • Site support infrastructure
• Perform temporary repairs to site infrastructure, including fencing, access points, and climbing safety systems.
• Test, inspect, and repair external alarms, lighting systems, electrical fuses, and air conditioning equipment.

Generator & Power Management

• Order, maintain, and refuel diesel generators (DGs) as required.
• Record and monitor generator running hours.
• Install and connect temporary generators to maintain site operation during outages or maintenance activities.
• Ensure backup power systems remain operational and compliant.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate site records and site folders.
• Provide operational and maintenance data to the Network Operations Centre (NOC).
• Complete maintenance reports, fault reports, and service documentation accurately and on time.
• Report identified faults, corrective actions, and site support system performance.

Spare Parts & Inventory

• Support spare parts management processes.
• Receive, transfer, store, and issue spare parts in accordance with company procedures.
• Maintain inventory accuracy and ensure availability of critical spares.

Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to all workplace health and safety requirements, including working-at-heights procedures.
• Ensure all works are completed within designated maintenance windows and quality standards.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and site access requirements.
• Identify and mitigate site hazards and operational risks.

Key Skills & Experience

• Experience in telecommunications rigging, tower climbing, and site maintenance.
• Knowledge of mobile and fixed telecommunications infrastructure.
• Experience with power systems, generators, batteries, rectifiers, and site support equipment.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation and engineering drawings.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Competent in maintaining accurate records and reporting.
• Understanding of safe working practices, including working at heights and electrical safety.

Qualifications

• Telecommunications Rigging Certification (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Rigging as applicable).
• Working at Heights certification.
• Construction White Card.
• Valid Driver's Licence.
• Relevant telecommunications, electrical, or technical qualifications preferred.
