Role

An opportunity exists for an experienced Head of IT Infrastructure, Architecture & Operations to lead the design, delivery and operation of a complex enterprise technology environment.

This role suits a technically credible leader who remains close to the technology while building, mentoring and developing capability within their team. You will work extensively with vendors and delivery partners, providing strong technical oversight and governance to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Reporting into senior technology leadership, you will be responsible for ensuring infrastructure and operational services are secure, resilient, scalable and aligned to organisational priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Delivery

• Lead, coach and develop infrastructure, operations and cyber security capability
• Provide hands-on technical guidance and support when required
• Establish clear priorities, standards and accountability
• Foster a high-performance, collaborative and inclusive culture

Infrastructure, Architecture & Operations

• Own the design and operation of a hybrid infrastructure environment
• Lead cloud adoption, data centre modernisation, disaster recovery and business continuity
• Define and maintain enterprise infrastructure and architecture standards
• Ensure services are reliable, secure and aligned to ITIL-based service management

Cyber Security

• Lead cyber security strategy and day-to-day operations
• Drive maturity uplift aligned to Essential Eight and NIST frameworks
• Oversee identity, endpoint and network security controls
• Ensure effective incident response, monitoring and recovery processes

Vendor & Project Delivery

• Manage and govern multiple vendors and managed service providers
• Provide technical oversight of vendor-delivered solutions
• Lead infrastructure and cyber security projects end-to-end
• Optimise costs, contracts, SLAs and service performance

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience leading IT infrastructure, operations and cyber security functions
• Strong hands-on experience within Microsoft environments (Microsoft 365, Azure, identity, security)
• Experience with hybrid cloud, networking, DR/BCP and service management
• Demonstrated leadership experience with a hands-on approach
• Strong vendor management and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience within a council or local government environment is highly regarded
• Experience within complex or regulated environments advantageous
