Role – Head of Information Security

A senior leadership role responsible for defining and delivering the organisation’s cyber security strategy, governance, and operations. The role balances strategic direction with hands-on technical oversight, ensuring security is practical, risk-aligned, and embedded across business and technology functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a cyber security roadmap aligned to organisational priorities
  • Lead cyber security operations including incident response, threat detection, and vulnerability management
  • Oversee risk management, governance, and compliance aligned to frameworks (Essential Eight, NIST, VPDSS)
  • Manage and uplift security policies, standards, and controls
  • Drive continuous improvement of security capability and resilience
  • Lead procurement, vendor management, and third-party security risk oversight
  • Provide technical leadership across cloud, network, identity, and data security domains
  • Translate cyber risks into business impacts for executive stakeholders
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery alignment
  • Ensure successful transition of security initiatives into BAU operations

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience leading cyber security strategy, operations, and governance in complex environments
  • Proven expertise in cyber risk management and implementation of security frameworks (Essential Eight, NIST CSF, ISO 27001, VPDSS)
  • Hands-on knowledge across key domains: network security, IAM, endpoint security, cloud security, and data protection
  • Experience with security tools such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, and cloud security platforms (Microsoft Defender/Sentinel desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in incident response, threat management, and vulnerability management
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with ability to translate technical risks into business outcomes
  • Experience managing vendors, contracts, and multi-stream delivery environments
  • Ability to lead security uplift and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications & Clearance

·      Tertiary qualification in IT, Cyber Security, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)

·      Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM (highly desirable)

·      Experience working within regulated, government, or local council environments preferred
