Are you an experienced Backup Support Engineer looking to grow your expertise in enterprise backup and recovery environments? We are working with a Federal Government client seeking a Junior / Mid-Level Backup Support Engineer to support and maintain backup and recovery services across a large server and application environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day backup and recovery operations using Veritas NetBackup and Commvault
- Monitor backup jobs, respond to alerts, and assist with resolving failed backups
- Perform backup restores for servers, applications, and databases under guidance from senior engineers
- Conduct routine health checks to ensure backup schedules and policies are operating as expected
- Provide Level 1 / Level 2 support for backup-related incidents and restore requests
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers with clear troubleshooting documentation
- Support disaster recovery activities, including recovery testing and documentation updates
- Apply patches and updates to backup tools and operating systems to maintain security and stability
- Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and backup procedures
- Work closely with infrastructure, storage, and application teams to support backup requirements
Skills and Experience Required:
- 2–5 years’ experience in backup or infrastructure support roles
- Hands-on experience with Veritas NetBackup and/or Commvault in enterprise environments
- Strong understanding of backup concepts including retention policies, schedules, and restores
- Experience working with Windows and Linux server environments
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to virtualized or cloud environments such as VMware, Azure, or AWS
- Basic scripting knowledge such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python
- Understanding of database or application-level backups (SQL, Oracle, VMware)
- Experience working in ITIL-based support or operations environments
