The Role

We are seeking an exceptional Senior DevSecOps Engineer to join a major Western Australian government‑sector client. This role is ideal for a highly capable DevSecOps specialist who thrives in complex delivery environments and can operate as a trusted technical authority across multiple development teams.

 

You will play a pivotal role in uplifting secure development practices across large‑scale programs, ensuring alignment with government security policy and industry best‑practice standards. This position requires someone who is confident working independently, driving security uplift, and influencing architecture and delivery decisions.

 

This role is based in Perth, and cannot be performed remotely.

 

Key Responsibilities

·      Implement and operationalise a Secure Development Framework across multiple active development initiatives.

·      Provide hands‑on DevSecOps guidance and assurance throughout all phases of the SDLC.

·      Define, enhance, and maintain secure DevSecOps patterns, reference architectures, and governance controls.

·      Architect, implement, and validate advanced security controls within CI/CD pipelines.

·      Support development teams to embed secure coding practices, supply‑chain security, and dependency‑risk management.

·      Deliver expert advice on containerisation and orchestration security, including runtime and admission controls.

·      Prepare development environments, pipelines, and practices for future security and compliance audits.

·      Drive continuous improvement of secure development practices using real‑world feedback.

·      Influence architectural decisions related to emerging tooling and AI/ML development pipelines.

·      Contribute to the broader organisational adoption of secure development frameworks and practices.

 

 

Skills & Experience Required

·      6–10+ years’ experience in DevSecOps, Secure DevOps, or Security Engineering roles within complex or regulated environments.

·      Deep hands-on experience with GitHub / Azure DevOps / AWS CodeCommit and modern CI/CD architectures.

·      Strong capability across secure coding principles, software supply‑chain security, dependency risk management, and artifact integrity controls.

·      Advanced experience with container and orchestration security, including build‑time and runtime protection, policy enforcement, and admission controls.

·      Proven ability to design, implement, and independently verify technical security controls across the SDLC.

·      Practical experience with secure SDLC frameworks, threat modelling practices, and Zero‑Trust approaches to development environments.

·      Solid understanding of AI/ML security considerations, including model‑integrity risks, data‑governance impacts, and secure pipeline design.

·      Experience with IaC and/or Policy‑as‑Code, as well as general scripting or software‑development skills.

·      Familiarity with recognised security‑assurance frameworks (e.g., application‑security verification standards, supply‑chain assurance models).

·      Demonstrated success influencing architectural decisions, uplifting multi‑team engineering practices, and engaging senior technical stakeholders.
