What we need from you?

• Strong experience as a Senior System Administrator across Solaris and RedHat Linux
• Ability to act as technical lead/2IC and guide a small team
• Hands-on experience with Solaris Virtual Platforms, RedHat virtualisation, VMware, Docker/Podman
• Experience with Oracle, Ingres, and PostgreSQL database administration
• Strong scripting skills (Shell, Bash, PERL, PHP)
• Experience with Puppet Enterprise, RedHat Satellite, and enterprise automation tools
• Knowledge of middleware (WebLogic, Tomcat, Tuxedo)
• Cloud experience in AWS/Azure and IaaS/PaaS environments
• Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

 

About the Role

A Senior System Administrator is required to provide technical leadership across Unix-based application hosting services. This role will oversee the administration of Solaris and RedHat systems, manage infrastructure upgrades, support database and middleware environments, deliver automation solutions, and ensure stable, secure, and high-performing hosting services. The position also includes team leadership responsibilities as 2IC.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and act as 2IC for a small administration team
• Administer Solaris Virtual Platforms, RedHat Linux, virtualisation, and container technologies
• Maintain Oracle, Ingres, and PostgreSQL database platforms
• Support middleware environments (WebLogic, Tomcat, Tuxedo)
• Undertake server builds, capacity planning, performance tuning, and monitoring
• Manage hardware upgrades, software licensing, and maintenance renewals
• Conduct DR testing, vulnerability scanning, backup and recovery activities
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and reports
• Support change, incident, problem, and configuration management processes
• Provide technical advice, estimates, and solutions to stakeholders
• Participate in rostered duties and on-call support
• Administer Puppet Enterprise, RedHat Satellite, and automation/orchestration tasks

 

Essential Skills & Certifications

• Oracle Certified Professional
• Solaris 10/11.4 and RedHat Linux 7/8/9 administration
• Solaris virtualisation (LDOMs, Containers), VMware
• Strong scripting (Shell, PERL, PHP, Bash)
• Oracle DB administration (v11–v21c), Ingres, PostgreSQL
• Experience with Puppet Enterprise and RedHat Satellite
• Middleware (WebLogic, Tomcat, Tuxedo) administration
• AWS and Azure architecture and system operations
• Strong understanding of NAS/SAN, backup, networking, and security
