Senior Database Administrator

We are seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator for our Ontario Government Client. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing and optimizing SQL Server databases both on-premises and in the cloud, with a strong emphasis on Azure technologies. This role requires expertise in database architecture, security, and cloud integration, along with the ability to lead technical teams and provide operational guidance.

Must Haves:

• 5-7 years of proven experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator (Azure and on-prem)

• 2+ years of experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Managed Instance, and Azure SQL database

• Certifications in MS Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900T00), Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals (DP-900), and/or Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions (DP-300)

Experience and Skill Set Requirements

• General Experience

  • Expert-level knowledge in SQL Management Studio, including daily proactive monitoring and issue response

  • Development, execution, and analysis of database expansions, reorganizations, and purging

  • Long-term planning for SQL database administration and regular verification processes

  • Experience with SQL Server builds and providing technical and operational leadership

  • Architecture and support of all databases, including development testing and SQL database backup/recovery processes

  • Involvement in problem analysis and resolution, such as deadlocks, data issues, and application recoveries

• Cloud Experience

  • Current experience with cloud technologies, particularly Azure Synapse and Azure SQL

  • Proficiency in managing SQL instances in Azure, understanding Azure subscriptions, resource groups, and SQL backups

• Database Security

  • Current experience with SQL Server security architecture

  • Understanding of SQL Server authentication, encryption, and Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
