Position: Senior Database Administrator
Duration: 1 Year assignment (contract)
Client Location: Toronto (Onsite: 7.25 hours/day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday)

This position is provisionally Onsite, requiring 7.25 hours per calendar day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (excluding breaks). Conditions may change based on organizational requirements and at the discretion of the Hiring Manager.
About the Engagement
Akkodis is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to provide operational support, administration, maintenance, monitoring, optimization, and modernization services for enterprise database environments supporting mission-critical public sector applications.
The successful consultant will be responsible for ensuring the availability, security, integrity, recoverability, and performance of complex database platforms across Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, and Oracle environments. The consultant will work closely with application support teams, infrastructure teams, developers, architects, project managers, vendors, and business stakeholders to support both legacy and modernized enterprise systems.
Scope
Provide operational support for enterprise database environments and associated applications.
Monitor database health, availability, capacity, storage utilization, performance, and reliability.
Perform database administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, upgrades, migrations, and installations.
Support highly available and disaster recovery environments utilizing clustering, failover, replication, and Always On technologies.
Analyze and optimize database performance, queries, indexes, execution plans, and server resources.
Assignment Deliverables
Operational support and maintenance of enterprise database platforms.
Database performance analysis and optimization recommendations.
Database upgrade, migration, and implementation activities.
Backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
Expertise Required
Must Have:
8+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise database administration and operational support.
Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server 2019, 2022, and 2025, including installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
Experience configuring and supporting SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances and Always on Availability Groups.
Hands-on experience performing SQL Server upgrades and migrations in enterprise environments.
Experience with at least one of the following database platforms: Oracle 19c, IBM DB2 for Windows, or IBM DB2 for z/OS.
Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
Nice to Have:
Experience with application monitoring and support tools.
Knowledge of cloud, hybrid, or virtualized infrastructure environments.
Relevant certifications in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2, or related technologies.
