Cost Estimator

We are looking for a Cost Estimator for an opportunity at one of our clients in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Tasks to be performed: 

Are you an experienced cost estimator with a background in the maritime industry? Do you enjoy turning complex technical concepts into clear, structured cost models? At Akkodis, we’re looking for a Design & Cost Estimator to join our Offshore Design & Estimation team — someone who can bridge the gap between engineering design and smart budgeting.

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with naval architects, suppliers, and planning teams to develop mechanical concepts for next-generation vessels. Your work helps bring projects to life — balancing performance, technical requirements, and cost-efficiency. You’ll also contribute to smarter processes and continuous improvement by evaluating past projects and estimating future ones with precision.

• Translate customer specifications (RFQs) into technical concepts, working alongside naval architects and proposal managers;
• Develop mechanical system designs and detailed technical specifications;
• Request and assess quotations from suppliers for key ship equipment;
• Create accurate cost estimates for the construction of integrated vessels;
• Monitor industry trends, regulations, and innovations in fuels and environmental standards;
• Apply various cost estimation techniques and refine them through post-project evaluations;
• Identify cost risks and explore alternatives to support smarter decision-making.

Candidate Profile

To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background / experience is required: 

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent working/thinking level);
• At least 5 years of experience in the maritime sector as a cost estimator;
• A strong understanding of ship systems and engineering processes is a strong preference;
• Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken).
