One of the key technologies developed by our client is the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), which aims to standardize and improve railway signaling and control systems across Europe.

The ERTMS is a comprehensive system that enhances railway network safety, capacity, and interoperability. It has two main components: European Train Control System (ETCS) and Global System for Mobile Communications-Railway (GSM-R). The ETCS is the core signaling and train control system, while GSM-R provides the communications infrastructure.

ETCS Level 2 is a critical aspect of the ERTMS. It enables continuous, real-time train control and communication between the train and the trackside equipment. Level 2 uses a combination of radio-based train positioning, data transmission, and constant speed supervision to ensure safe and efficient train operations. ETCS Level 2 allows trains to operate at higher speeds and closer distances while maintaining safety.

The client has been at the forefront of developing and implementing ERTMS and ETCS Level 2 technology. The company has successfully deployed ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 systems in many railway networks worldwide, helping modernize and improve rail infrastructure.

Our Solution

We started with a comprehensive analysis of the software documentation. Based on that, we developed a robust test strategy to accurately reproduce and validate trains' behavior within a dedicated test environment provided by the client. Then we have designed test cases to simulate various scenarios, inputs, and interactions that we expect the software to encounter during operation.

By executing the defined test cases within that controlled environment, we could thoroughly evaluate the software's performance, functionality, and adherence to specified requirements.

We maintain documentation and traceability throughout the validation process, recording test results, observations, and any anomalies encountered. This process allows us to identify areas for improvement, track the resolution of issues, and provide valuable feedback to the client.
