Education organization makes better technology & learning decisions with Akkodis analytics tool

Client Name

Australian education provider

Our client is the largest provider of education in Australia. It funds 2,269 providers to deliver education services to children and families in NSW. For primary and secondary schools, the organization is responsible for more than 800,000 students across 2,206 schools.

Business Challenges

Akkodis was engaged to develop an operational prototype to demonstrate analytics capacities of school learning tools usage (Microsoft, Google) within the local school’s community. The Learning Tools Utilization project was to create a prototype featuring automated extraction, storage, and analysis of data usage, and to generate a standard set of reports on the use of various learning tools.

Our Solution

The project was undertaken on behalf of client’s Learning Management & Tools Team who provided direction and subject matter expertise. We did a data analysis & formal acceptance of solution architecture. Our experts also performed platform build and data ingestion from Google and Microsoft API’s and delivered two sets of Power BI business insight reports: one for schools and one showing usage across other corporate business units. Akkodis delivered a scalable analytics platform fully integrated into the Microsoft and Google API’s. We also offered a detailed architecture pattern and document for ongoing development of the platform.

Technologies used:

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Data Factory
  • Data Lake
  • DataBricks
  • Azure Devops
  • PowerBI
  • Mulessoft

The reports have generated quite significant information for the client that allowed them to make better technology and learning decisions. A subset of the insights the department have managed to get answers to are:

Does student tech usage increase from Term 1 to Term 2?

Who are the Top 10 largest comprehensive schools using Google and Microsoft?

Who are the Top 3 primary schools making use of technology?

Do selective schools use Google more than non-selective schools?

How do rural executive directorates compare to metropolitan directorates?

Do secondary schools make use of the tools more than primary schools?

Do BYOD schools have a higher usage compared to other schools of the same size?

What scholastic year makes the most use of technology?
