Your Role
Akkodis is recruiting for a Manufacturing Cost Engineer for a defense manufactuer in the West Point, MS area. This is a direct hire position with a pay range of $85K annually to $100K annually depending on education, location and experience. The Manufacturing Cost Engineer develops manufacturing cost estimates for new business pursuits, engineering changes, and production programs.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, fabrication, forming, finishing, and mechanical assembly.
Engineering Drawing Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, weld symbols, material specifications, and statements of work.
Cost Estimating: Experience estimating direct labor, material, tooling, outside processing, cycle times, setup times, scrap/yield, and NRE costs.
Time Studies: Experience developing labor standards and cycle times using time studies, MTM, MOST, or similar methods.
Excel/ERP: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for building detailed cost models; experience with ERP systems, preferably Infor LN.
Government/Defense: Understanding of FAR/DFARS, government proposal requirements, cost principles, and ideally experience supporting DCAA/DCMA audits or reviews.
Analytical & Communication Skills: Strong ability to analyze estimated vs. actual costs, identify variances, document assumptions, and present estimates to leadership and cross-functional teams.
Industry Preference: Aerospace, defense, heavy vehicle, automotive, or other complex manufacturing environments are highly desirable.
Compliance: Ability to work with ITAR/export-controlled and proprietary technical information.
Nice to Have: AS9100/ISO 9001 experience, First Article Inspection (FAI) knowledge, or AACE, SCEA, ASPE, or ICEAA certification.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience: 2+ years of experience in manufacturing cost estimating, manufacturing engineering, or industrial engineering, preferably in machining, fabrication, welding, or assembly.
