Accelerating Healthcare Innovation with Smart Engineering

Time, accuracy, and efficiency are critical in healthcare delivery—especially as providers face growing patient loads and tighter budgets. With global health spending projected to reach $22.1 trillion by 2029 (Statista), MedTech innovation is essential.

A leading medical technology company partnered with Akkodis experts to create a faster, more automated PCR testing device.

We acted as the implementation department as the client began this healthcare story, says Zivorad Krstic, Vice President IT Digital Services Germany, Akkodis.

Flexible Collaboration, Scalable Success

Bringing medical innovation to market demands precision and compliance. With an AI for Good approach, Akkodis combined deep engineering expertise and scalability to help create technology that advances healthcare for people everywhere.

Our proven track record and agile approach allowed the project to scale quickly and efficiently as success grew

Through close collaboration, Akkodis accelerated time-to-market and reduced project risk—critical in today’s fast-evolving MedTech landscape.

Smart Testing for a Growing Global Population

With the global population aged 60+ projected to hit 2.1 billion by 2050 (WHO), healthcare systems need efficient diagnostic solutions.

Systems like this allow local doctors to get results within two to three hours instead of days, says Schneider.

By enabling decentralized testing, Akkodis helps healthcare providers detect illnesses faster and deliver better care, improving patient outcomes globally.

Making PCR Testing Simpler, Smarter, and More Accessible

PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing is essential for detecting viruses through DNA amplification. Applying AI for Good, Akkodis reimagined the process by redesigning both hardware and software for automation and ease of use.

The compact, smartphone-like device employs open-source technology, improving access to fast, reliable, and affordable diagnostics for people everywhere.

Engineering the Future of MedTech

Working with the client, Akkodis developed an embedded operating system using Yocto Linux, along with React, Electron, and Go. This open-source architecture accelerated development, reduced supplier dependency, and improved flexibility.

Nearly all components on the machine now use open-source software

Cross-industry collaboration—from automotive engineering to life sciences—was the key to success.

Precision Imaging and Predictive Diagnostics

The integration of AI-powered image-detection algorithms marked a key breakthrough, enabling real-time PCR data analysis. Akkodis software measures color intensity and pattern recognition with exceptional precision.

Applying AI for Good principles, this innovation strengthens diagnostic accuracy and supports healthcare teams with faster, data-informed insights for better patient outcomes.

Cross-Sector Expertise Driving Healthcare Transformation

The new diagnostic device is now commercially available—and its development highlights how transferable engineering skills can reshape multiple industries.

This project proved we could transfer our embedded systems and OS expertise from automotive into healthcare, says Krstic.

Today, Akkodis continues to refine the system’s software for new cartridges, helping to future-proof the platform for evolving healthcare needs.

Conclusion:-

Combining engineering expertise, digital innovation, and human empathy, Akkodis champions AI for Good to shape a more equitable healthcare future.

This partnership shows how purposeful technology can advance patient well-being, ensure fairness in innovation, and make positive change on a global scale.
