AI Enters Aircraft Maintenance Planning

As airlines lean harder on AI to plan maintenance work, Aviation Week's Aviation Daily looked at how carriers such as Alaska Airlines are partnering with AI-powered planning tools to line up mechanics, parts and aircraft downtime — while digital engineering firms like Akkodis build out their own tools for the aftermarket, ingesting both structured records and natural-language maintenance notes into systems with clear rules and a human in the loop.

Akkodis has partnered with Microsoft to bring its own maintenance-planning optimization tool to market, and has already signed several operators and MRO providers as customers. Akkodis President and CEO Jo Debecker told Aviation Week that the opportunity isn't limited to the largest fleets — what determines success is having the right business process, data and guardrails pointing back to clear control points.
