Zurich, Switzerland – January 15, 2026 Akkodis – a global leader in digital engineering consulting – announces today that it is a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. As an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner and holder of the Government Consulting and Security Consulting AWS competencies, Akkodis will support public and private sector organizations in transitioning to the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. In doing so, it will enable them to access the security, availability and performance that customers expect from AWS, while meeting stringent operational autonomy and data residency requirements within the European Union (EU).
The launch of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud comes at a pivotal moment. Across Europe, ministries, critical infrastructure operators and regulated industries are adapting to evolving regulatory requirements and strengthened data residency and risk-management obligations. For these sectors, the ability to modernize securely while adhering to strict compliance and data sovereignty requirements for their sensitive workloads has become a core strategic priority.
Akkodis brings more than a decade of hands-on experience running sovereign workloads for government entities and institutions with heightened compliance requirements. Unlike traditional cloud transformations, sovereign-focused modernization requires deeper expertise across compliance engineering, operational governance, supply-chain trust, data access boundaries and the migration of legacy systems into controlled environments. Akkodis supports the full lifecycle – from assessing existing architectures and defining jurisdictional guardrails, to implementing and operating sovereign-ready cloud environments.
With more than 450 AWS Cloud Certifications, Akkodis brings together consulting, engineering and managed services in its Cloud, Infrastructure & Cybersecurity Practice, under the leadership of James Bromberger, a highly experienced AWS-certified engineer.
"Digital sovereignty is not achieved through infrastructure alone – it requires operating models that respect jurisdiction, governance and trust,” said James Bromberger, Global Vice President Cloud, Infrastructure and Cybersecurity, and Akkodis AWS Global Practice & Alliance Lead. “With more than a decade of building and operating digital solutions for government clients on AWS, we understand their expectations and how to meet them."
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud introduces several sovereign-by-design capabilities for European organizations:
- Operational autonomy, with AWS European Sovereign Cloud infrastructure entirely located within the EU, operated by EU citizens and physically and logically separate from other AWS Regions
- Enhanced data residency, providing customers with full control over where their data is stored, how it is secured, and who has access to it
- Technical controls powered by the AWS Nitro System, along with advanced encryption, key management services, and hardware security modules
- Governance and compliance controls through a dedicated governance structure that AWS has established in Europe, led by EU citizens who are obligated to abide by European laws, and to act in the best interest of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
These capabilities offer the foundation required to run sensitive, mission-critical and AI-powered workloads securely while meeting Europe’s growing governance and compliance expectations.
Akkodis also brings significant European capabilities to help clients implement and operate within the framework of digital sovereignty:
- Akkodis AWS Cloud Engineers are located across many EU countries, and are themselves EU citizens
- Some of these engineers currently hold national security clearances
- Akkodis has significant experience delivering cloud services to governments and public sector owned entities across Europe and worldwide
- Akkodis Global Headquarters is located in Switzerland.
As organizations begin planning their adoption of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, Akkodis’ teams are ready to support clients in designing, deploying and operating sovereign-ready systems – from secure modernization and controlled AI architectures to long-term operational governance across regulated environments.
