Oslo, 10.09.2026 — Akkodis Nordics, part of Akkodis, a global engineering and technology partner, today announces that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Simula Research Laboratory. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration on sovereign, secure, and ruggedized compute and connectivity solutions for critical infrastructure and industrial applications.
The collaboration brings together complementary Norwegian research and industrial capabilities. Akkodis contributes ruggedized hardware, product engineering, systems integration, environmental and pre-compliance testing, production scale-up, and customer delivery capacity. Simula contributes leading research in applied artificial intelligence, AI safety, cybersecurity, post-quantum cryptography, and verification and validation.
Together, the organizations intend to explore the development of next-generation rugged compute and connectivity platforms designed for demanding operational environments. The ambition is to enable customers to deploy advanced data processing and AI capabilities while retaining control over critical data, infrastructure, and technology.
Akkodis already provides secure compute and connectivity platforms for applications ranging from industrial operations and energy systems to critical infrastructure and remote environments. In Norway, the company has extensive experience in embedded systems, ruggedized electronics, secure connectivity, and the development of technology for demanding operational conditions. Akkodis is now building on this experience to develop its next generation of rugged compute and connectivity platforms.
Per Kristian Egseth, SVP at Akkodis Nordics, commented:
“The ability to process and protect critical data close to where it is generated is becoming increasingly important for critical infrastructure and industrial operations. By combining Simula’s research capabilities with our experience in ruggedized hardware, systems integration, and industrial delivery, we can develop secure and sovereign technology designed to meet real operational requirements.”
Lillian Røstad, CEO at Simula Research Laboratory, commented:
“Turning advanced research into deployable capabilities requires close collaboration between research and industry. This agreement brings together complementary expertise across AI, cybersecurity, cryptography, hardware, and engineering, creating a strong foundation for developing technology that can be trusted in security-critical environments.”
Critical infrastructure and industrial operators are increasing their investments in data, AI, cybersecurity, and resilient communications. At the same time, organizations are placing greater emphasis on sovereign technology, verifiable security, and closer cooperation between research institutions and industry.
