Berlin, Germany June 5 2024. Akkodis, a leading digital engineering company and pioneer in Smart Industry, is presenting the future of sustainable aviation this week at ILA Berlin with ‘Green&Fly’.

As an innovation platform for the aviation industry, Green&Fly, a concept study for a regional aircraft (CS25), brings together distinctive technological developments. Readily evident is the unique wing design, which is based on intensive research and extensive AI-supported modeling. The striking rhombus shape leads to significantly less turbulence and more efficient flight performance. An algorithm developed in-house by Akkodis allows for optimal stiffening of the aircraft’s fuselage as well as a significant reduction in weight. Since 2022, Green&Fly concept development efforts have incorporated the use of ‘digital twin’ technology. By integrating all available data into a virtual model, Akkodis’ experts can test metrics such as thermal load, digitally and with significantly less effort.

The aircraft is powered by an emissions-free system based on hydrogen-powered fuel cells. The electricity generated here flows loss-free via superconductors to the two electric motors, thereby achieving optimum energy utilization. The low temperatures required for superconductivity are generated by the cryogenically transported hydrogen, which further increases energy efficiency.

Green&Fly is an innovation in terms of sustainability and digitalization; two megatrends significantly impacting the global aviation industry. With this concept, Akkodis has made the possibility of emissions-free aviation tangible while also demonstrating the enormous potential of alternative aircraft drive systems.

Reiner Oldewurtel, VP Aerospace & Defense at Akkodis, said: "The aviation industry has set itself an ambitious goal: zero-emissions flying by 2050. In addition, digital innovation is more relevant for the aviation industry than almost any other sector. From fuselage design and aerodynamic optimization to intelligent pilot support, digital solutions are becoming a decisive factor for technological and economic success at all levels. With Green&Fly, Akkodis is helping reach these goals and making it possible to capitalise on the opportunities offered by digitalization."

Peter Mehrle, SVP Akkodis Germany, explained: "I am very proud that at ILA Berlin, Akkodis can show what the aircraft of tomorrow can look like, today. With Green&Fly, we have a disruptive platform concept that combines sustainability and flexibility. In this respect, we are offering the aviation industry a blueprint for the design, and ultimately the mass production of a completely new type of aircraft – one which is sustainable, flexible, and digital."

Reiner Oldewurtel added: "Green&Fly is not only an impressive vision of digital and sustainable aviation - it also demonstrates the in-depth engineering and digitalization expertise needed to combine the various innovations in a single complex platform. In this way, Green&Fly also demonstrates the wide-ranging expertise that Akkodis offers its customers in the aerospace sector."

In addition to the company’s aviation expertise, ILA visitors can also experience Akkodis’ offerings in the space sector. With ’AI-Core’, an AI-supported system for image recognition, space debris can be identified and removed by automated ’clean up satellites’ in the future. Space projects of all kinds can be optimally planned and executed with a significantly lower risk of collision.

In addition to the aerospace sector, Akkodis is active in all areas that are crucial for a sustainable and networked future. Our digital engineering and software expertise is particularly valuable in the Automotive & Transportation, Energy & Cleantech, Cybersecurity and defense sectors.
